The University of North Alabama is accepting applications for the following position: Assistant Director, AMSTI.
General Description
This position is responsible for working closely with the AMSTI site director in the daily operation of the regional AMSTI site. This position will assist the director with providing professional learning opportunities to teachers and administrators. Travel within the UNA Inservice Center region and to all ALSDE assigned meetings, and some overnight travel, is required. Salary is based on the AMSTI Assistant Director 12-month salary matrix (based upon the State Teacher Salary Matrix plus 5%) per the FY19 AMSTI Site Guidelines based upon degree and years of experience.
Essential Job Duties
• Assume responsibility in the absence of the director;
• Support the work of specialists in schools and districts;
• Coach and mentor math and/or science teachers, as assigned;
• Communicate and collaborate with AMSTI-ALSDE to implement all AMSTI projects, recognizing that the ALSDE is the final authority regarding policies and operations of AMSTI Sites;
• Oversee and coordinate the effective operation of the AMSTI Site, including supervision of staff and assisting with:
o Materials/refurbishment center;
o Budgeting for site activities;
o Monitoring the AMSTI Inventory Management System (AIMS);
• Plan and supervise a Summer Institute that includes instructional and resource components as defined and identified by AMSTI-ALSDE;
• Coordinate with ASIM, Regional Inservice Centers, IHEs, science centers/museums, AMSTI Affiliates, and other related entities in implementing AMSTI;
• Oversee the recruitment and selection process for schools that are recommended to the ALSDE to become AMSTI Schools;
• Coordinate ongoing mentoring and content-deepening opportunities for current and potential trainers;
• Arrange and supervise publicity and media releases showcasing regional AMSTI events, to include social media;
• Oversee and/or present PLUs and other professional learning in AMSTI Schools;
• Maintain records of the following:
o Schools, administrators, and teachers participating in various project components (Summer Institutes, inservice training, new hire training, etc.);
o Daily itineraries of staff;
o Evaluations of specialists with the purpose of fostering professional growth;
o Evaluations of Summer Institutes and other staff development activities to assess the effectiveness of the initiative;
o Activities with businesses and higher education;
o Financial operations and documentation as required by the ALSDE and the institution associated with the site;
o Other documentation required by the ALSDE, local institution, and/or the funding source (e.g., SharePoint and site reports);
• Provide guidance and support to LEAs and schools as defined in the three-year PLSP;
• Complete and submit required paperwork in a timely manner;
• Coordinate with other AMSTI Sites and provide assistance, as needed;
• Pursue grants and other forms of funding to support the mission of AMSTI (must be approved in advance by the ALSDE);
• Participate in professional learning activities and staff meetings as required by the ALSDE;
• Foster positive public relations with local school systems, businesses, communities, and higher education;
• Perform all other duties as assigned.
