Position Summary:
The University of Iowa’s Office of Sustainability and Environment seeks to hire a dynamic individual to fill the role of Program Manager. For this new position we seek a highly qualified candidate who will contribute to sustainability-focused education, research and engagement programs that are campus-wide and relevant at local, regional, national, and global scales. This position reports to the Director of the Office of Sustainability and Environment.
The Program Manager will: support the development of faculty and student related education, research, outreach, and internships around sustainability and environmental themes (e.g. energy-water-food, public health, business, engineering, arts and humanities, urbanization and climate change; environmental, economic, and cultural resiliency). Key duties include:
- Lead involvement and engagement in UI sustainability initiatives
- Coordinate capacity-building activities for faculty and research partners; support assessment of the impact and effectiveness of sustainability education, research, and engagement at The University of Iowa
- Support student groups by helping them define goals, develop their own strategic plans, and develop projects (e.g., ECO Hawks, Student Gardeners)
- Support ongoing efforts to meet goals related to the 2020 Vision at the University of Iowa
- Act as a liaison internally between and among operations, academic, and student organizations on implementation of cross-unit sustainability education, research and applied projects
- Support the collection, management and reporting of data and financial measures associated with Office performance
- Supervise student interns in order to support goals of the Office of Sustainability and provide excellent educational and professional experience for students
Education Required:
- A Master’s degree in sustainability or equivalent combination of education and experience is required
Required Qualifications:
- 3 years of related experience in sustainability-related education, public outreach, and volunteer coordination
- 3 years of related experience in a supervisory role, having managed employees and/or research projects and internships
- Working knowledge of software applications, such as Microsoft Office
- Extensive team building skills, the ability to collaborate across organizational boundaries, and manage multiple complex projects simultaneously
- Working experience in leading planning efforts with various stakeholders and building consensus in a larger, institutional setting
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to clearly communicate and work with diverse individuals and groups in a constructive and collaborative manner
Desired Qualifications:
- Demonstrated ability to build collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders through engagement and outreach
- Experience working with teams to develop interdisciplinary projects, grants and proposals
- Experience working with faculty and students in an academic environment and/or with sustainability related focus
