Agricultural Supervisor
The University of California, Davis, Department of Plant Science is recruiting for an Agricultural Supervisor that will be responsible for day-to-day operation of the 604 acres' facility assisting agronomic, vegetable and forage crops teaching and research projects.
As the primary point of contact for this facility, this position interacts and communicates with supervisors, faculty, researchers and the local community to meet the multiple research, extension, and educational goals of the Plant Sciences Field Station. Candidate will be expected to participate in team meetings, share ideas and resources with other divisions within Plant Sciences on a regular basis. Supervise, coordinate, and plan work assignments and priorities at the field facility and manage staff. Perform all activities in the operation of a large, complex research and teaching facility.
Manages major and minor farm equipment, vehicles, building and shop maintenance which consists of 200 pieces of equipment, valuing over $868,000. Ensure equipment, manpower and supplies are available to accomplish work load requirements and meet established goals and deadlines. Provide overall supervision and participate in activities to maintain crop production for research and other experimental purposes.
Supervise and train personnel in the operation of farm equipment, application of pesticides and fertilizers in a safe and effective manner. Responsible for project and research field allocations, layout and crop rotation along with cultural activities. Supervise and participate in the maintenance of field facility including rolling inventory, post-harvest processing equipment, buildings and fences.
