Seasonal Maintenance Worker
Town of Lyons Parks and Public Works Seasonal Maintenance Worker The Town of Lyons has openings for the position of Seasonal Parks & Public Works Maintenance Worker. This temporary seasonal 4 -5 month position for up to 720 hours (May-August) is full-time 40 hrs./wk. @ $14.00 to $15.50 an hour. DOQ and may include varying shifts on weekdays, weekends or holidays. Must be 18 years old and have a Valid CO DL.
General Statement of Duties:
This is temporary seasonal four to five month position for up to a possible 720 total hours under the direct supervision of the Departmental Lead as assigned by the Director of Parks and Public Works. Seasonal Maintenance Workers will assist year-round full-time maintenance staff in performing the regular and recurring park and public works maintenance duties, using any of the equipment authorized. Perform routine assignments as employee gains experience. Will operate maintenance equipment, power tools and hand tools as assigned, may work alone or as a crew. This individual must perform tasks efficiently and safely.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Assist in maintaining town parks, open space, trails, rights-or-way, streets and other public facilities as assigned.
· Perform manual construction and maintenance tasks for the department.
· Tasks related to ball field maintenance and game preparation.
· Proficiently operate all assigned small equipment and vehicles.
· Perform work in accordance with sound safety practices.
· Work varying shifts on weekdays, weekends, and holidays.
· Respond to public inquiries in a courteous manner within scope of knowledge and authority; refer to the Departmental Lead as appropriate.
· Pull weeds, shovel dirt, mowing and trimming duties, trash removal, assist in irrigation installation and repair, maintain existing landscaped areas, and associated equipment operation/maintenance and perform other related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
· Knowledge of methods, equipment, tools, materials and maintenance practices for operations of Parks and Public Works facilities.
· Knowledge of turf maintenance and irrigation procedures.
· Ability to do strenuous work in adverse weather conditions.
· Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
· Ability to demonstrate positive public relations skills, maintain effective working relationships with the public and other employees.
· Knowledge and ability to practice on the job safety practices and follow Town practices.
· Ability to evaluate situations and make decisions.
· Perform detailed work thoroughly, neatly, accurately and efficiently.
LICENSES AND LICENSE REQUIREMENT:
· Must be 18 years or older. Must possess a valid Colorado State Driver’s License.
· First Aid/CPR certificates preferred.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
High School diploma, GED or equivalent is required. Previous experience in general landscape maintenance work, public works experience, or related field. Experience with small equipment, hand tools and related equipment required for job duties.
· SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Possession of a valid Colorado driver's license. Knowledge of applicable city policies, laws and regulations affecting departmental activities.
· The Town of Lyons is a Drug Free Work Environment. This position may be subject to drug and alcohol testing.
A Driving record will be investigated, and drug test obtained pre-employment.
