DITCHTENDER/MAINTENANCE WORKER
Salary: $24.04 - $30.98

We are a special district providing irrigation and drinking water to local farmers, businesses and residents. Currently we are accepting applications for a Maintenance Worker/Ditchtender. Under general supervision, this position performs a variety of semi-skilled and skilled duties in the distribution of irrigation water to farmers within assigned division; performs varied duties in the construction, repair, cleaning, and maintenance of irrigation canals, ditches, pipelines, pump lines, and structures.
Qualified candidates will have knowledge of:
¶ General farming, soils and crops.
¶ Record keeping and reporting.
¶ General computer use, data entry.
¶ General construction experience with concrete and forms.
¶ Mix cement, sand and water to produce concrete, grout or slurry by hand or mixing machine.
¶ Safe work practices.
¶ Basic methods, tools, techniques and materials used in the operation, construction, maintenance, repair and cleaning of irrigation facilities.
The ideal candidate will have the ability to:
¶ Work without direct supervision.
¶ Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
¶ Make water measurements.
¶ Perform heavy manual labor.
¶ Understand and carry out oral and written directions.
¶ Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
¶ Enter, maintain and interpret records utilizing a lap top computer.
¶ Operate equipment utililized in the construction, maintenance and repair of irrigation canals, ditches and pipelines.
¶ Erect and disassemble scaffolding, shoring, braces, traffic barricades, ramps and other temporary structures including safety rails and fall protection when necessary.
¶ Possession of or desire to obtain in Class "A" driver license.
