Under general supervision, performs routine to complex fire and life safety inspections in new and existing occupancies. Upon completion of a comprehensive training program, incumbents will interpret and enforce federal, state and local regulations as they apply to mandated inspections, operational fire code permits, general business inspections, weed abatement, fireworks, special event permits, complaints related to fire and life safety, may assist/perform origin and cause fire investigations, provides technical consultation, assistance and collaboration to industries and other governmental agencies; is subject to call back and can work weekends or irregular work hours during the day or evening; performs other duties as required.
Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age.
Education and Experience
Education must be obtained through a post secondary institution currently accredited by any accreditation body recognized by either the Counsel for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) or the United States Department of Education.
FIRE INSPECTOR I:
Required:
· Possess a high school diploma or equivalent GED certificate.
· Completed a minimum of fifteen (15) college units in Fire Science or equivalent
· or ANY Associates or Bachelor Degree from an accredited college
· Possess or be able to obtain Penal Code 832 Certificate within twelve (12) months of hire date as a condition of employment.
Successful completion of the Fire Inspector I Task Book is required by the end of the 12 month probationary period.
Desirable:
Bilingual ability.
An Associate degree from an accredited college.
LATERAL FIRE INSPECTOR I & 2
Required:
· Three years full time service as a fire inspector or three years of full time service as a firefighter with a minimum of two years as a full time inspector in a fire prevention bureau with experience in code enforcement.
· Completed a minimum of fifteen (15) college units in Fire Science or equivalent or ANY Associates or Bachelor Degree from an accredited college.
· Completion of Fire Inspector I A-D or equivalent
· Possess or be able to obtain Penal Code 832 Certificate within twelve (12) months of hire date as a condition of employment.
· Successful completion of the Fire Inspector I Task Book is required by the end of the 12 month probationary period.
