Responsibilities: The Fort Morgan Times is in search of a sports reporter to cover two primary high schools and other secondary schools in Morgan County, Colorado, for a six-day daily, weekly and two shopper products. The successful candidate will have a passion for reporting on high school sports and developing features. This is a great opportunity to start or develop your career, with advancement opportunities available to major market news products. The sports editor will be responsible for page planning and reporting of each edition, with the ability to work with coaches and the community. The sports editor will be asked to manage digital platforms, including Facebook. In addition to high school sports, you will have an opportunity to cover local pro-rodeo, local motor sports and to follow local athletes at nearby colleges and in the professional ranks. Some of your specific duties might include maintenance of a sports calendar of events, page planning, and page design with a hub, and assistance to the news department on request, direction of three annual sports preview editions and the freedom to rethink the sports section of the newspaper.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in communications preferred, or equivalent experience Working knowledge of AP style and grammar.
- Experience with digital platforms, including Facebook Page design experience is a plus High ethical standards for honesty, integrity and accuracy.
- A goal-setter with the vision to achieve them.
- Flexible schedule is offered to ensure ability to produce each edition.
- Some night and weekend work may be required.
- Ability to beat production deadlines.
- Contribute to a positive culture of teamwork and collaboration.
- Must live in area or be willing to relocate (no relocation assistance offered).
- Must submit 4-6 writing samples or link to portfolio with resume and application.
