Job Description and Duties
The Psychologist (Health Facility-Clinical-Safety) serves as a psychologist at a health facility, providing necessary psychological treatments/interventions and forensic/psychological assessments. The incumbent works in conjunction with the Senior Psychologist (Supervisor) and Senior Psychologist (Specialist) in providing quality psychology services.
At Porterville Developmental Center (PDC), this position involves direct patient care, behavioral assessments, participation on an interdisciplinary team, forensic evaluations, psychological evaluations, and testimony in court. Direct client care includes but is not limited to: individual therapy, group therapy, crisis interventions, and conducting intake assessments. Behavioral analyses involves direct client observations across settings, review of behavioral data and providing a written functional behavior assessment. Participation on the interdisciplinary team involvesattending meetings, discussing client progress, and training staff members. Forensic evaluations include, but are not limited to: dangerousness and risk assessment, trial competency, and progress reports. Psychological evaluations include, but are not limited to: cognitive functioning, adaptive functioning, and academic achievement. Also provides clinical supervision to psychology interns and practicum students.
The Psychologist is assigned under the general direction of the Senior Psychologist (Supervisor) and is subject to the rules and regulations of the Department of Developmental Services and other State and Federal agencies. The incumbent may assist the Senior Psychologist (Supervisor) and Senior Psychologist (Specialist) in responsibilities for assuring conformance with standards of practice and providing training to interns/practicum students and level of care staff.
On August 5, 2021, State of California, Health and Human Services Agency State Public Health Officer Order (Order) mandated that all workers who provide services or work in Health Care facilities listed in the Order have their first dose of a one-dose COVID-19 vaccine regimen or their second dose of a two-dose regimen by September 30, 2021.
Working Conditions
TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Regular interaction with clients and staff in monitoring provision of direct services, and other conditions common to on-and-off residence training environments. Exposure to communicable diseases, blood-borne pathogens and other conditions common to a clinical nursing environment. Position requires prolonged sitting and use of computer terminal.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The incumbent must possess and maintain sufficient strength, agility, endurance, and sensory ability to perform the duties contained in the duty statement.
