Construction Manager / Safety Coordinator
is needed in our Maintenance Department
Requirements: B.A. Degree or equivalent work experience in job related area.
AHERA Inspector’s License, AHERA Management Planner’s License, Indoor Air Quality Training
Responsibilities include the following:
*Assist in site and building layout.
*Assist the Director with architects and engineers in developing Plans and Specifications for new facilities.
*Help develop and write contracts to be used by department in securing work for Pender county Schools.
*Aid in securing permits from Federal, State, and Local agencies for the development and specific uses of Board of Education
lands, and properties, including utility infrastructure, building construction, and other asset disposition.
*Solicit and engage contractors for bids or negotiated work. Attend and assist at conferences, bid openings and meetings with
architects, engineers and contractors.
*Daily on-site supervision of the actual construction work; this includes ensuring that contractors are performing the work
according to the contract documents, building codes, and OSHA safety regulations. Also includes miscellaneous work, upgrades,
and modifications on all our campuses.
*Quality control.
*Monitor and assure timely execution of work according to project schedules.
*Administers and manages the Safety Program for the Board of Education under the direction of the Director of Auxiliary Services.
*Coordinates and manages recording, reporting and investigating accidents, injuries and other cases; coordinates with fire
prevention enforcement, jurisdictions, and insurance agencies; and plans and develops methods and procedures for improving
facility and personnel safety.
*Plans and develops methods and procedures for the Pender County School System to comply with the Occupational Safety and
Health Act (OSHA), Environmental Protection Act, Indoor Air Quality and other adopted safety standards and regulations.
*Develops emergency plans and procedures for the school system and coordinates all emergency planning activities with the local
and state Civil Preparedness Agency, the county and city fire marshals, sheriff and police chief, and county health department.
*Acts as coordinator of safety training and emergency drill programs for the school system, including shop safety procedures,
maintenance, and transportation and Board of Education staff department activities.
*Conducts OSHA, other safety inspections in all areas of the school, departments, and office operations and facilities and assists in
inspections by outside agencies when requested.
*Organizes, develops and supervises a reporting and record keeping system to fulfill all requirements of OSHA directives and
requirements to keep the School Board, Superintendent, all local school system establishments and the community informed of
the Education Safety Posture.
*Coordinate the Board of Education Safety Plan and Program with the OSHA Division of the North Carolina Department of Labor.
*Represent the Board of Education in safety conferences and meetings at the local, state and national level.
*Provide training materials, guidance, and coordination with OSHA consultants to meet the needs of the Board of Education’s
regular and special safety training requirements.
*Collaborate with all supervisory personnel, including principals, in all areas related to safety performances, standards,
requirements and procedures.
