Orange Water and Sewer Authority (OWASA), a progressive water utility providing water, wastewater and reclaimed water services to the Towns of Chapel Hill, Carrboro and to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, seeks qualified candidates to fill a Laboratory Analyst in the Wastewater Treatment Plant Laboratory. OWASA’s Mason Farm Wastewater Treatment Plant is a participant in the national Partnership for Clean Water initiative for optimization and continuous improvement.
The ideal candidate is a self-motivated team player with excellent written and verbal communication skills. Interpersonal skills are a must as is the ability and willingness to assist the team to fulfill the mission and goals of the organization while ensuring safe work practices are followed.
The purpose of this position is to ensure water discharged from wastewater treatment facilities are environmentally safe and meet all regulatory requirements and regulations. This is accomplished by collecting samples throughout the treatment process and conducting compliance and non-compliance analytical testing. Laboratory duties include maintaining an effective quality control and quality assurance program, following established standard operating procedures, calibrating, and maintaining analytical equipment and performing various quality control procedures to ensure reliability, precision, and accuracy of results. This position requires sound analytical judgment to evaluate results and proactively ensure the organization’s compliance with regulatory requirements and involves considerable interaction with team members and local university researchers.
Candidates should have one to three years’ laboratory experience with an associate degree or equivalent in a related field of study. Position requires a valid driver’s license issued by the State of North Carolina. Successful candidate must meet and maintain requirements for a safety sensitive position (bi-annual physicals, etc.) and must frequently exert 10-25 pounds and occasionally 20-50 pounds.

Salary range is $45,412 - $69,934.
