NC State University in Raleigh, NC seeks a Research Assistant Professor to conduct research in statistical methods & computer programs for building complete genetic linkage maps, with an emphasis on autopolyploid genetics. Work in collaboration with a programmer to develop user-friendly software; interact with sponsor personnel; train project personnel; & write grant proposals. Requires PhD in Plant Genetics & Breeding, & 2 years of work exp. as a Postdoc Fellow or Senior Research Asst. Must have demonstrated experience with: modelling the meiotic process of genetic linkage & crossing-over in autopolyploid species; developing theory for linkage map construction in autopolyploid species; adv. scientific programming in R and C++ computer languages; developing statistical methods & computing algorithms for linkage map construction in autopolyploid species; & developing a pipe-line of computational tools from processing raw DNA sequences to call SNP dosage markers & to construct a complete genetic linkage map & to map quantitative trait loci in autopolyploid species.
