Facility Maintenance Technician - Electrician / HVAC
The Facilities Maintenance Technician - Electrician/HVAC will perform highly skilled maintenance, repairs, replacements, and new installations for electrical and mechanical systems within the campus enterprises division areas of NC State University.
The Facilities Maintenance Technician - Electrician/HVAC needs to be familiar with electrical systems up to 600v and understand construction installations as well as work, but not limited to the following, secondary electrical systems and gear 600v and less, panels, starters, variable frequency drives, disconnects, motors, lighting fixtures, components, accessories, lighting control systems and components, all types of light switches, receptacles, and various other control type devices. For mechanical systems the facilities maintenance technician should also understand AHU operations, VAV units, FCU units, chilled water pumps, air compressors, control systems, exhaust fans, heat exchangers, control valves, and miscellaneous system devices.
Minimum Experience / Education
• High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. Some positions may require special licenses or certification(s).
• Optional Guidelines: Experience in the trade(s) areas related to the area of assignment may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
Other Required Qualifications:
- Strong written and verbal communication skills to effectively communicate with customers, peers and supervisors; and professionally communicate with multiple levels of employees within the University.

- Technical or vocational school in electrical, and mechanical or building trades.
- Three (3) years experience in a variety of commercial maintenance responsibilities.
- Considerable knowledge of electrical, and HVAC. Licensure in one or both preferred.
- Sound working knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems in the commercial and institutional areas.
- Proficient with maintenance, preventative maintenance, and installations for new and replacements using the proper procedures to safely isolate and lock out systems related to work identified.
- Evaluate multiple systems, identify issues, recommend and provide solutions while addressing concerns in a timely manner.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Technical or vocational school in electrical, and mechanical or building trades.
- Three (3) years experience in a variety of commercial maintenance responsibilities.
- Considerable knowledge of electrical, and HVAC. Licensure in one or both preferred.
- Sound working knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems in the commercial and institutional areas.
- Proficient with maintenance, preventative maintenance, and installations for new and replacements using the proper procedures to safely isolate and lock out systems related to work identified.
- Evaluate multiple systems, identify issues, recommend and provide solutions while addressing concerns in a timely manner.
Required License or Certification:
- Valid NC Driver’s License or ability to obtain one within 60 days
