Job Summary:
The Accountant will be responsible for these accounting activities: general ledger, account analysis and reconciliation, financial reports, regulatory reports, audit schedules, and IRS Form 990. Reviews payrolls for transmission to and receipt from payroll processing vendor. Reviews accounting policies and procedures as needed and recommends changes to the Finance Director.
Description of Responsibilities:
Accurately maintains general ledger and related accounting functions in accordance with GASB and other accounting standards as required by the State of North Carolina.
?Prepares timely, accurate general ledger (G/L) account reconciliations to support balance sheet accounts by fund and in total.
?Prepares journal vouchers and, subsequent to approval, posts into the general ledger.
?Prepares accurate fund authorizations.
?Reviews bi-weekly time cards and payroll records for transmission to payroll processing vendor.
?Reviews payroll files processed by vendor, prepares corresponding journal vouchers for entry into the G/L.
?Sets up and maintains vendors in accounting software.
?Prepares bank account reconciliations and assists with cash management activities.
?Assists with preparation for annual audit, including preparation of audit schedules and financial statements.
?Assists with preparation for annual monitoring performed by oversight agency
Prepares accurate and timely accounting and managerial reports for internal and external purposes, including:
?Internal Revenue Service (IRS) Form 990;
?Comprehensive Annual Financial Report;
?Charitable Solicitation License;
?Census data;
?County property tax exemption and annual business listing; and
?Other reporting as required.

Required Education and Experience:
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) is required. A minimum of five years progressively responsible experience in public accounting and non-profit organizations is preferred.
Experience with Abila (formerly Sage) MIP General Ledger software preferred.
Desired Competencies:
?Ability to complete IRS Form 990.
?Advanced knowledge of GAAP, including accounting rules and regulations promulgated by GASB and FASB.
?Thorough knowledge of the principles, practices, techniques, and procedures utilized in accounting.
?General knowledge of effective business practices and organizational structure and dynamics.
?Thorough knowledge of automated accounting systems, including general ledger.
?Effective communications skills: able to communicate clearly, concisely, tactfully and diplomatically.
?Initiative and sound professional and administrative judgment in making decisions, interpreting and applying internal policies, accounting principles, governmental regulations, and supervising unit activities.
?Intermediate-to-advanced-level Microsoft Excel spreadsheet skills.
?Ability to work independently on high-level, complex accounting processes.
