POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT
INVESTIGATOR
The North Carolina Board of Nursing is seeking an Investigator in the Legal Department. Applicants must have knowledge of laws and rules regulating nursing; standards of nursing practice; and related state and federal statutes.
Primary responsibilities of this position are investigating complaints of potential violations of the Nursing Practice Act. Applicant must be a strong communicator (both written and verbal), with interview skills, analytical skills, and report writing skills. Successful applicant must have the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, be self-motivated, and have excellent time management skills. Individual selected must have the ability to effectively communicate with employers, licensees and attorneys, prepare investigative reports, make recommendations for case disposition and provide cogent, effective testimony in contested cases. Additional responsibilities include responding to inquiries related to nursing practice, consultation with employers, and preparing and conducting presentations. Applicant will be responsible for examining, analyzing and interpreting medical, business, personal and public records and documents to determine facts and verify authenticity. Applicant must be proficient in Microsoft Office with the ability to learn custom software applications.
Applicant must have a bachelor’s degree in nursing and must be actively engaged in nursing practice with a minimum of five consecutive years; must have an unencumbered license to practice nursing in North Carolina or be eligible for licensure in North Carolina. Investigation experience or experience in risk management is preferred. Salary is commensurate with education and experience. Fulltime position located in Board of Nursing’s Raleigh office. Valid driver’s license and travel required.
