Director
Elon University is currently accepting applications for a Director of the North Carolina Open Government Coalition and Instructor in the School of Communications. This full-time position involves teaching three or four courses over fall, winter, and spring terms and working with the NCOGC board to strengthen public understanding and appreciation of the value of transparency in government through open meetings, open records and other forms of accessibility for the public good. Key responsibilities of the director include working with the NCOGC board to plan the state’s annual Sunshine Day, organizing workshops and creating webinars on open meetings and open records laws, responding to citizen queries via email and the center’s hotline, representing the coalition in media interviews, maintaining an up-to-date website, conducting an annual membership drive and fundraising efforts, and working with the board on strategic planning in an effort to inform North Carolina citizens about open government laws and the value of government transparency in a democracy. The director is the primary manager of the coalition’s legal and fiscal affairs. The position also involves teaching three to four courses a year in the School of Communications. Master’s degree or J.D. preferred. Significant professional experience in journalism or communications, a working knowledge of North Carolina state laws regarding open government, and the ability to be an influential voice to promote and uphold the value of government transparency in society required.
