Job Description   

Danville Community College developed from two institutions, Danville Technical Institute and the Danville Division of Virginia Polytechnic Institute opened in 1936 as Danville Textile School, becoming Danville Technical Institute just after World War II. The Danville Division of Virginia Polytechnic Institute first began as an engineering division in 1946 and was later expanded to include the first two years of course work for all engineering, business administration, liberal arts, and science majors.  Beginning in the summer of 1966, all programs taught by Danville Technical Institute were brought under the Virginia Department of Community Colleges. Effective July 1, 1968, the Danville Division of Virginia Polytechnic Institute merged with the existing community college providing the comprehensive programs now offered.

  • Supervises workforce faculty, trainers and continuing education staff;
  • Promotes a culture predicated on leadership development, student-success, data-driven decision making, programmatic excellence, and customer service;
  • Acts as a liaison with local healthcare providers, community partners, and business and industry;
  • Encourages and promotes the highest quality programming and instruction;
  • Leads planning, implementation, promotion, and administration of workforce education courses and programs;
  • Evaluates workforce training programs based upon industry requirements, current market demands, and student outcomes;
  • Assists with the preparation and monitoring of budgets for all programs;
  • Administers a competent system of records and office accounting;
  • Provides leadership in recruitment, retention, and development of high-quality instructors;
  • Oversees a comprehensive system of continuous improvement in accordance with the College strategic planning process and programs’ compliance with industry standards;
  • Works with the other members of the Instructional Leadership Team and other areas to promote and ensure student success among all instructional programs;
  • Develops strategies for improved recruiting, marketing, and outreach for programs and works with appropriate college personnel to implement these strategies;
  • Assists the Vice President with the development of new programs and initiatives aimed at increasing the college’s programmatic scope and increasing enrollment;
  • Serves on various college committees as appointed;
  • Teaches a minimum two workforce trainings or continuing education courses within the scope of an academic year;
  • Actively participates in college functions and events, and engages in community service.


KSA's/Required Qualifications         

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Experience teaching or managing in continuing education or community college programs and/or experience developing, growing, or expanding workforce programs through community partnerships.
  • Applies knowledge of programs and analytical methods.
  • Manages administrative and operational aspects of assigned program.
  • Applies knowledge of general financial management principles and practices, human resources management and budgetary principles.
  • Establishes standards and approves policy changes.
  • Contact with other management, community resources, and programmatic staff to discuss recommendations or provide advice on complex studies.


Preferred Qualifications   

  • 5 years of experience teaching or managing in continuing education or community college programs.
  • 5 years of experience developing, growing, or expanding workforce programs through community partnerships.
  • Leadership and management experience.
  • Demonstrated successful and effective teaching or training experience, preferably in a business, technical or healthcare field.
  • Dedication to high quality customer service.
