College Of The Albemarle seeks applications for the following full-time position: Computer Support Technician
The role of the Computer Support Technician is to provide computer hardware and software support for College personnel and lab computers.
The Computer Support Technician receives supervision from the Director, Management Information Services.
Examples of Duties
General:
- Maintain, analyze, troubleshoot and repair computer systems, hardware and computer peripherals.
- Troubleshoot and alleviate software problems.
- Recommend outside servicing as needed.
- Establish polices for securing desktop computers.
- Respond to inquiries from faculty and staff regarding computer hardware and software as needed.
- Research and make recommendation on computer equipment and software purchases for computers used in computer labs and faculty and staff offices.
- Perform corrective maintenance which includes trouble diagnosis, troubleshooting and system repair to board and operating system levels and the tracking and coordination of outside repairs.
- Diagnose and analyze computer related problems and develop and implement solutions; resolve hardware and software problems.
- Notify users of system down time; maintain log of all systems faults and repairs.
- Collect computer system information and maintain an information database to include all system specifications and software versions and license information. This information database will track all new installations and all system upgrades.
- Perform the functions of the job by relying on instructions and pre-established guidelines.
- Support the application and operating system deployment management system; centralize anti-virus product solution for virus/malware protection for computer labs and faculty and staff workstations; support the Malwarebytes Management Console.
Typical Qualifications
Required:
- Associate's degree in Computer Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering Technology or a related field from a regionally accredited college or university.
- One year experience in the installation, maintenance and repair of modern computer and related peripheral equipment.
- Possession of a valid driver's license.
Preferred:
- A bachelor's degree in a technology related field.
