ISA Certified Arborist
Job Summary: Under limited supervision, ISA Certified Arborist will be responsible for monitoring and documenting the health of individual trees, shrubs, and other perennial woody plants. ISA Certified Arborist must be able to provide recommendations of treatment if necessary. Requires travel and occasionally working from different locations throughout the Chicagoland area. This position may also have a varied work schedule and responsibilities based on the needs of the department.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
• Identify tree genus and species (Genus at a minimum) when requested.
• Monitor plants health care and be able to identify potential biotic and abiotic factors influencing tree health.
• Inventory of all trees listed in the arborist monthly reports.
• Update arborist monthly report for submission to CDOT.
• Monitor caliper inch measurement of trees. Mid-summer and late Fall measurements.
• Weekly assessment of deadwood percentage, tree lean and vehicular damage.
• Inspect trees for possible health issues including disease or pest problems.
• Provide recommendations/prescriptions related to plant health when needed.
• Assist department with additional task if needed.
EDUCATION and/or WORK EXPERIENCE:
• ISA Certified.
• Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred with minimum 2 years previous Arborist experience is fully qualifying.
• 3+ years of experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
• Horticultural knowledge and proficiency with landscape operations is a must.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and capable of working in a team environment is required. • Must be able to work with designated field staff to meet or exceed the company and client’s expectations.
• Can direct and carry out tasks related to job.
• Must possess valid IL Driver’s License and be insurable by company insurance carriers.
Physical Requirements:
Essential and other important responsibilities and duties require maintaining physical condition
necessary for walking, standing and sitting for prolonged periods of time; may be required to
operate assigned vehicle; may be required to push, pull, bend, lift light to moderate objects (50
lbs.), carry, reach, and stoop; finger dexterity is essential. Maintain mental capacity that permits
making sound judgments regarding work and have regular attendance.
