Director of Technology
Position Start date: July 1, 2019
Carolina Friends School (CFS) is seeking a full-time Director of Technology. The Director of Technology is a collaborative leadership role, working with the Head of School and staff in the planning and management of operational and academic technology. The Director of Technology will work closely with head teachers and administration to ensure that academic technology is implemented in keeping with the educational philosophy and the mission of the school. The Director will manage a staff of technology professionals and will lead the team’s efforts to ensure that the staff and other stakeholders properly use and understand the systems we have in place and are kept informed of best practices.
Reporting to the Head of School, the primary responsibilities of the Director of Technology include:
- Facilitate the process of priority setting and decision making for meaningful and effective use of technology in support of the school’s strategic plan
- Coordinate and participate in the implementation of new applications and evaluate and modify procedures
- Serve as database administrator for the school’s student information system (Veracross) and Business Office and fundraising software (Blackbaud’s Financial Edge and Raiser’s Edge)
- Manage Powerschool Learning Management System
- Administer staff computer security training and testing program
- Recommend appropriate hardware, software, and other systems necessary for a rich learning environment and robust infrastructure
- Ensure that disaster recovery and business continuity plans are in place as an integral part of CFS’s technology systems
- Stay current on national standards as well as benchmarks and frameworks for technology literacy
- Manage the technology budget, contract negotiations, and technology asset procurement
- Lead and mentor the Technology Team
Strong candidates will demonstrate:
- Bachelor's degree in Information Technology or a related field required, Master’s degree or 10+ years working in IT preferred
- Experience in an independent academic setting preferred
- Exceptional networking and information technology skills
- Strong database management skills required
- Understanding of Internet and computer security concepts
- Experience in technology operations
- Capacity for strategic planning and visioning the school’s technology future
- Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing with all members of the school community
- Willingness to provide operational and educational support to staff and students for regular programs, activities, and special events
- Ability to manage, encourage, mentor, and motivate employees
- Strong problem-solving, organizational, and time management skills
- Understanding of and strong affinity for Quaker philosophy and the School’s mission
- A willingness to understand and explore how power and inequality influenced by factors such as race, class, gender, sexuality, and learning and physical disabilities impact our students and families
