Reporting to the Major Gifts Officer for Institutional Advancement, the Grant Writer and Coordinator of Corporate and Foundations Relations will be the leading contributor to the drafting and editing of grant proposals to corporations and foundations. The successful candidate must be highly organized and will utilize superior communication skills and creativity in executing campus-wide strategies for seeking grant funding from companies and foundations in support of the mission of Averett University. The Grant Writer and Coordinator of Corporate and Foundations Relations will be a self-motivated leader with an impeccable work ethic who is able to effectively translate the priorities of campus stakeholders into timely and successful grant proposals.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree is required; master's preferred.
- Three to five years' experience successfully securing major grants from private foundations for institutional support. Higher education experience preferred.
- Demonstrated foundation and corporation grant writing experience and proficiency.
- Candidate must have excellent written and verbal communication skills, be proficient in research, interpreting and analyzing diverse data.
- Candidate must possess the ability to work collaboratively and independently to achieve stated goals with a high level of independence, maintain confidentiality, prioritize assignments, and manage time effectively.
- Demonstrated interpersonal skills to foster and maintain effective relationships with faculty, advancement staff, individual donors, and foundation program officers.
- Availability for periodic evening and weekend work is required.
- Must possess a valid driver's license.
Primary Responsibilities
- Prepare and submit foundation and corporate gift proposals and grant reporting documents for the Institutional Advancement Office.
- Monitor the status of active solicitations and periodically report on the success rate of submitted solicitations.
- Direct the identification, cultivation, and stewardship of prospective and existing foundation, corporate, and individual donors.
- Work with faculty and staff to research, develop, write, and submit grant proposals.
- Participate in University Advancement events and/or activities as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Major Gifts Officer.
This is a salaried, exempt, professional level positionhours are varied.

- Use of computer and various software (word processing, spreadsheet, web-based) as well as other common office equipment such as telephone, copier, fax, printer, etc.
- Comparing, synthesizing, computer, compiling, copying, and analyzing information
- Speaking, hearing, and visual acuity is necessary
- Physical activity will include grasping, reaching, keyboarding, and the ability to move items up to 25 pounds, such as a box of printer paper or office supplies.
